Orientation is about knowing where you are in relation to your surroundings. Mobility means moving around. Research shows that orientation and mobility are topics that many people with combined visual and hearing impairments are concerned about. It is also a field that places great demands on those who work professionally in the area. Hearing, the tactile sense and sight must be used differently to get from A to Z. There are also demands on the surroundings and design, not just the person moving in them. It's also exciting to have knowledge of technology that constantly provides new opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Eikholt conference has a tradition of featuring research, projects, technology and experiences from practical fields and everyday life. This was also the case this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Who was the conference for?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The conference, which took place on 27 and 28 August 2025, was aimed at vision and mobility educators, vision and hearing contacts in municipalities, staff in kindergartens, schools and adult education, audiographers, opticians, occupational therapists and others who work with rehabilitation and have an interest in vision, hearing and mobility education. The conference was open to all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eikholt 45 years - a unique centre for unique people<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Roar Meland, Director of Eikholt, opened the conference with his speech \"Eikholt - a unique centre for unique people\". This year marks 45 years since Eikholt was opened. In this presentation, we get an insight into the history and the importance Eikholt has had and still has, for people with combined visual and hearing impairment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
