Your first visit to Eikholt

Eikholt is a resource and competence centre that offers courses for people with combined visual and hearing impairment/deafblindness and their carers.

The first course is usually an Introductory course

The first course you are offered is usually an introductory course.  If you've attended Eikholt before, but it's been a long time, an introductory course may also be useful.

An introductory course usually lasts three days, and a carer is welcome to accompany you if you wish. The course is customised to your needs and the content is developed together with you. If necessary, we split the course in two. You will then return for a new course after a while.

The purpose of the introductory course is:

  • That you get to know Eikholt and our services
  • Mapping your opportunities and needs
  • Meeting other people with combined visual and hearing impairment

An introductory course can include:

  • Assessment of vision and hearing functions in our vision and hearing clinic (AV clinic)
  • Guidance and information on vision and hearing function
  • Meet with communication, ICT and mobility counsellors to find out what you can get further training in
  • Trial of interpreter/companion
  • Establish contact with local advisors and other organisations
