Haptic with guide dog

This is one course spread over two weeks. When you apply for the course in week 7, you are simultaneously applying for both course weeks.

Part 1. Week 7: February 16 – 19, 2027

Part 2. Week 23: June 8 – 11, 2027

Who is the course suitable for

The course is suitable for people who have combined visual and hearing impairments. You have a guide dog, use an interpreter/companion, and want to improve your interaction with your guide dog.

Course objectives and content

In this course, you will learn how to use haptic signals from an interpreter/guide to enhance the interaction between you and your guide dog. By receiving haptic signals, you will receive information about the dog’s behavior, obstacles in the environment, and an overview of what the environment looks like where you are located. This allows you to praise, correct, and command the guide dog based on the information provided to you.

• Basic introduction to haptic signals for use with a guide dog
• Practical exercises with a dog and an interpreter/guide inside and outside
