Webinar to refresh your vision and hearing knowledge

On 10 January 2024, a webinar was held on the topic of better everyday life for citizens with impaired vision and hearing. The webinar was aimed at vision and hearing contacts in the municipalities, employees at NAV's assistive technology centre, but was relevant and open to anyone who meets people with combined visual and hearing impairment.

Line Hovland, advisor for vision and mobility, is smiling after completing the presentations.

Better everyday life for citizens with visual and hearing impairments

Many people had set aside time to follow the webinar on this topic. At the start of the webinar, 350 people had logged on, and the polls that were sent out along the way show that many have benefited from the day. We are very pleased with that.

The aim of the day was to provide insight into the consequences of living with combined visual and hearing impairment, as well as tips for meetings with the target group.

Program

The webinar was based on meetings with users of Eikholt. We got to know what it means to live with a combined visual and hearing impairment, and how this affects everyday life. What do they find it takes to function well, and to be able to participate, despite the combined sensory loss?

  • In Part 1, Astrid describes how her life has changed since she suffered a double sensory loss.
  • Based on the conversation, we highlight in part 2 what you as a professional should be aware of when meeting people like Astrid. What are typical challenges for people with a combined visual and hearing impairment, and how do you facilitate the meeting situation? You can find the presentation here here
  • Part 3 demonstrates a pedagogical approach for people with combined visual and hearing impairments. We meet Åshild and Feresheth in a training situation.
