Group course “Us and the World” – Politics, Influence and Participation

Two groups have now completed the group course ‘Us and the World’. Politics, international issues, advocacy and participation have been on the agenda during these intense weeks at Eikholt.

What is audio description?

Audio description makes visual information accessible through descriptions and provides more opportunities to participate in, understand, and experience what is happening around them. The project "Words that Open Eyes: Audio Description for Social Inclusion" has developed material to make audio description easier.

Architecture for All Senses – From Ambition to Human Right

How do we create environments where all people can experience accessibility, inclusion, and genuine participation? This is the core of the project Architecture for All Senses at Eikholt. CRPD contributes to stronger legal protection

From December 2025, the CRPD is part of the Human Rights Act. The CRPD aims to ensure that people with disabilities have the same rights and opportunities as everyone else. This means that the rights in the CRPD are enshrined in Norwegian law and must form the basis of public services and decisions.

Haptics: pocket edition – with new functionality and a new design

The long-awaited Haptics: pocket edition app has been relaunched! The app provides an overview of 144 haptic signals - a method of conveying information through touch. The app is especially important for people with visual impairment and combined visual and hearing impairment/deafblindness, their networks and professionals.

Activity, insight and practice - a unique collaboration with the country's interpreting programmes

Every autumn, participants with combined visual and hearing impairments gather for an active and educational course at Eikholt. At the same time, interpreting students from three of the country's interpreting programmes gain valuable practice in real situations - as interpreters and companions. 27 June - International Day of Deafblindness

Today marks a historic milestone in the work to raise awareness of deafblindness and promote the rights of people living with double sensory loss. The United Nations General Assembly has decided that 27 June will be the International Day of Deafblindness from 2025 onwards.
